Hey, Tell That Guy You’ll Call Him Back

September 17th, 2009 0 Comments

The following post was written by vanpooler Ka Tinah Daniels from Ocala, Florida. It was originally submitted to our iPhone contest, but it was so enjoyable that we had to share it with our readers.

Okay, so I’m youngest person in my vanpool being in my 20s. In fact, some of my co-workers have kids around my age. Anyway, like most people my age, I love my cell phone! I’m always texting or talking on it. And for the most part, I  hardly ever talk while in the van.  So one day while I was on the phone in the van, one of my co-workers yelled out jokingly, “Hey tell that guy you’ll call him back. He’s cutting in on my quality time.” The person who I was on the phone with was like, “Who is that?” I could hear the tension in his voice so I just told him I’d call him back. I guess I was being kind of rude to the other vanpool riders. So needless to say I hardly talk on the phone while on the vanpool. Instead I send text messages! LOL!

Vanpool Drivers: Please Put that Phone Away!

For years, you’ve heard that cell phones and driving don’t mix. Now, according to a recent USA Today article, the National Transportation Safety Board is barring NTSB employees from using their cell phones while driving. Read the full story here.

Of course, we at VPSI know that our vanpool drivers would never think of gabbing on their cell phones while sitting behind the wheel. They’re way too smart for that. If a driver really needs to get a message out, they’ve got a van full of passengers who are willing and able to make the call for them.

But what about sending text messages? According to a new study, sending text messages while driving is even more dangerous than driving drunk! So please, don’t do that either. Find out more here.

Andy Bawden, VPSI Professional Safety Trainer (pictured above), shared a 14 minute Safe Driving video, discussed simple safety tips and answered concerns of vanpool drivers.

Here are a couple of important things that all drivers can learn from: 1) Make sure your side mirrors are properly adjusted to reduce your blind spots and 2) Avoid using your cell phone while driving at all costs–it’s as bad as driving while under the influence!
