Orange, California – Employees of CareFusion’s Yorba Linda facility are the first vanpool on the road. Tach Sirichai, Jose Vicencio, Roscoe Woody, Cynthia Poillot, and Merritt Girgis met with Tracy McConnell from VPSI and within two weeks formed their vanpool group.

The group had the same work schedule and lived within the same area so determining their route from Murrieta to Lake Elsinore and stopping in Orange was finalized with everyone’s input. The group is ecstatic about cutting their commuting cost in half and will recruit additional passengers for an even greater savings. Read More

VPSI Promotes Safety

June 24th, 2010 0 Comments

VPSI works tirelessly to promote safety and create a safe environment for vanpool drivers, passengers and the many other commuters with whom we share the road. An integral part of VPSI’s risk management program includes ongoing safety promotion efforts. Andy Bawden, a defensive driving instructor of the National Council and VPSI’s Loss Prevention Manager, regularly conducts driver safety awareness meetings in classroom settings at employer locations across the country in support of our safety awareness efforts. He encourages interaction with all attendees and challenges them to keep the safe operation of their vehicles in the forefront of their minds. These safety training meetings are held throughout the US to demonstrate how safe a vanpool vehicle can be when operated by an experienced, alert vanpool driver.

On May 4th, Bawden held one of these training sessions with commuters working at The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, California. The Aerospace safety training event was one of eight such meetings conducted by VPSI in Southern California in May.

We at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) started a vanpool last September. We lost our bus route but the van has turned out to be a great investment for all of us. There are 12 of us in the van and we all watch out for each other. I manage the vanpool and we have a very dedicated driver, Maurice, along with two backup drivers. In March we had our six month anniversary and we all celebrated by going to a very nice restaurant, Caps, in Brentwood, California, spouses included. Read More

A few weeks back in Irvine, California, an early morning Appreciation Breakfast was held at Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) with the goal of thanking everyone for their continued support of the vanpool program. VPSI provided doughnuts, bagels, fruit and juice as well as gift cards and travel mugs for raffle prizes. About eighty vanpool participants were in attendance along with their Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC), Jane Shafer. Read More

A Salute to LTC Hatcher

Multi-tasking comes naturally to LTC Janis Hatcher, U.S. Army Reserve. In late October, LTC Hatcher relocated from Georgia to California, handling the myriad activities necessary to move into a new home, a new office, and arrange local transportation for her commute. As a long-term vanpooler at Ft. McPherson, LTC Hatcher expected to transition into a VPSI van when she arrived in California, however she learned that there were no vanpools matching her commute. But she did not let that stop her. She quickly found enough people in her area, signed up as a driver, applied for the vouchers and started a van from her area on November 1, 2009. LTC Hatcher’s positive energy and ‘can do’ attitude extends beyond her unit as well, as she has also spread the word about the benefits of vanpooling throughout the U.S. Army Reserve, and three additional vans will start in December and January. A salute to LTC Hatcher for her commitment, not only to a safer America, but a cleaner, greener America too!
