The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) is located in the northwestern corner of the state of Louisiana in Shreveport. It is a rural area with light traffic where commuting to work takes no more than 15-20 minutes. When OBVAMC launched the vanpool program in late 2009, one group readily joined the program to enjoy their free ride to work. As Chris Moore, the Driver/Coordinator of VPSI’s first vanpool at OBVAMC observed, “It is the best kept secret here and employees are slowly learning about it. We simply love it!” Currently, a couple new groups are in the works.
OBVAMC recently won three Green Globe Awards from the Green Building Initiative. To find out more visit here.

VPSI’s Alice Lee-Cook will be hosting presentations on the benefits of vanpooling in January. If you commute to Overton Brooks VAMC, Fort Polk or Pueblo Chemical Depot, please stop in to see if vanpooling is a good fit for your commute.
Pueblo Chemical Depot
Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2010 and Thursday, January 14, 2010
Time: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (Lunch break)
Location: Auditorium Bldg 6
The Pueblo Chemical Depot is located in southeastern Colorado, east of the City of Pueblo. The installation encompasses approximately 23,000 acres and includes a variety of buildings, structures and undeveloped areas. The depot’s mission is the safe, secure storage of the chemical weapons stockpile.
VPSI’s Vanpool program is now offered at Pueblo Chemical Depot. Federal employees are eligible to receive a monthly tax free allowance up to $230 month towards vanpool services. It is a month-to-month turnkey program which includes a commuter van, insurance, maintenance, road side assistance, loaner van, customer support service and a fuel card. Groups of 5-15 would share the ride from the same origin area and pick up others along the way. Contractors are welcome to join or start a new vanpool as well. Benefits will vary for contractors so check with your HR Dept. Read More
