CA Higher Education Sustainability Conference Wrap Up

June 20-23, 2010 – VPSI showcased its vanpool program at the 2010 California Higher Education Sustainability Conference, held at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Several decision-makers from the three higher educations systems, consisting of 142 campuses, were amongst the many attendees visiting the VPSI booth. They attended the conference to learn more about environmentally preferable purchasing, green building, dining services, transportation, water and energy efficiency, climate action planning and cutting-edge research. Employees from the Bureau of Prisons in Tucson participate in the Ragnar Relay Del Sol once a year. This year’s relay run took place February 26 and 27, began in Prescott and ended in Tempe Arizona. It was a continuous run throughout the day and night until the finish. Read More

Enclosed is the policy year 2009 – 2010 Insurance Identification card that replaces the card in your vanpool vehicle. While you are replacing this card please be sure that you have in your blue zippered bag the Important Vanpool Items that are listed below. If you are missing any of these items please contact your local VPSI office by calling 1-800-VAN-RIDE (826-7433).

Schedule a Safety Meeting with your vanpool group to review safe vanpool practices. All drivers and riders must respect the driver’s right to operate the van safely and without distractions. Here are some areas to review.

Obama’s Plan to Achieve Greater Gas Mileage

Last Tuesday, President Obama announced new rules to bring cars and trucks sold in the United States to an average of 35.5 miles per gallon, about 10 miles per gallon more than today’s standards. Passenger cars will be required to get 39 while light trucks will be required to achieve 30 miles per gallon. The higher mileage and emissions standards set by the Obama administration, which begin to take effect in 2012 and are to be achieved by 2016, will transform the American car and truck fleet…but, for the better or for the worse?
