The 2010 Columbia Gorge Transportation Summit was hosted on April 22, 2010 by the Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD) Board, in partnership with their sponsors and coordinating committee. MCEDD provides regional support services, with a focus on coordinating transportation options.
Paul Pearce, Skamania County Commissioner and MCEDD Board member, opened the keynote presentation by explaining “I am extremely hopeful that with the combined talent in the room we will develop direction to start to tackle this problem on many levels.” From that point, the participants attended educational sessions, networked and developed regional strategies around public transit, bicycle/pedestrian and vanpooling/rideshare options. Imagine going out to your van in the morning to begin your commute and the van is not there. That’s exactly what happened recently to a group of commuters. The van was stolen from a park and ride lot. There was no forced entry into the vehicle. The van had been left unlocked with the keys in the cup holder. No doubt this incident caused great concern and inconvenience for the vanpool group, but this incident was avoidable. Read More

Fort Polk, Louisiana - April ushered in significant expansion of the vanpool program at Fort Polk with four new groups! All the participants were new to the program and they could not wait to start. One of these groups was made up of all active duty members who work on the north end of Fort Polk.
