Brian Shaw speaks at commuter relief ACT rally.

On May 11, 2011, ACT President Brian Shaw spoke at a Commuter Relief Rally in Washington D.C. with Congressman Blumenauer (D-OR), Congressman Moran (D-VA), Congresswoman Hirono (D-HI), and other ACT members to unveil the Commuter Relief ACT, HR 1825. This legislation expands a series of tax credits for individuals and employers to make it easier for commuters who wish to commute to work by bicycle, walking, carpooling, or using public transit.

“I am here to let you know that when it comes to helping commuters save money on their commutes, (the Commuter Relief ACT) works… Everyday ACT members are working with employers to help get commuters to work in a way that turns a $4.00/gallon trip into a $1.00/gallon shared ride, or $.33 cent/gallon vanpool. The savings add up quickly, and we can do more now! One of the quickest, easiest, and most cost effective ways Congress can provide relief from the high price of gas is give employers the tools they need to provide a better and cheaper way to get to work.”

Hal Genter, VPSI’s Project Manger in Atlanta gets his introduction to the Vanpool Safety Meeting, when he takes me to Turner Broadcasting System’s office in downtown Atlanta next Friday.

I have been conducting these meetings for several years throughout the country. In the Atlanta area, over the years, I have held meetings at TBS and other great places such as Georgia Power, Emory University, Atlanta VA Medical Center and Fort McPherson.

The TBS vanpool drivers are an enthusiastic group and always make me feel welcome and at home at their facility.  The meeting next Friday (May 6th) will start at 10:00 AM and will be followed by the second vRide presentation with TBS and the first with the drivers, where Hal will answer the question – “What the heck is vRide?”

This will be a super 2-for-1 day for the vanpool drivers. Both Hal and I are looking forward to seeing everyone there.
