    Behind the vanpool emissions stats above, in layman’s terms…here’s some equivalencies for 2009 year-to-date:
     Annual greenhouse gas emissions from 46,381 passenger vehicles;
     CO2 emissions from 588,935 barrels of oil consumed;
     Carbon sequestered annually by 57,555 acres of pine or fir forests;
     CO2 emissions from the energy use of 23,043 homes for one year;
     CO2 emissions from burning 1,322 railcars’ worth of coal;
     Greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 87,325 tons of waste
    instead of sending it to the landfill;
     Annual CO2 emissions of 0.05 coal fired power plants.
