The following post was written by vanpooler Constance Mantsch from Roseville, California. It was originally submitted to our iPhone contest, but it was so enjoyable that we had to share it with our readers.
A funny story happened the first day of our vanpool. After several months of organizing the vanpool, I was so excited to finally have the van on the road. Well it was the first day and we had a great trip on the way into work. It was mid-June and a pretty hot day in the Sacramento region. So we made it in okay, but when it was time to leave, we had a problem. The van would not start, and this was a new van, not even a year old. Someone figured that the battery was dead and when I looked around I noticed the knob to the headlights was pulled out. Boy was I embarrassed!
I had a hard time letting the other riders in on the fact that their new driver, whom they were just getting to know and building confidence in, had left the lights on and ran the battery down on the first day. Quickly I was able to scramble around to get some assistance from the security department to get battery cables and a jump start on the battery. All was taken care of and I am happy to say that since that hot day last June our van has been happily on the road with no more delays.
