VPSI’s military-focused website, www.militaryvanpool.com, unveiled a new “Military Vanpool in the News” page yesterday that features reprints of stories and, whenever possible, hyperlinks to the original story about vanpoolers and vanpooling at military installations throughout the country. As military installations from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska embrace sustainable transportation solutions like vanpooling these success stories continue to generate media attention. “Archiving news stories about successful vanpool programs at military installations is a logical addition to the militaryvanpool.com website and consistent with our objective of raising awareness about the military’s Mass Transportation Benefit Program,” noted Peyton Youmans, the site’s creator.
The website now has listings of existing vanpools at more than 80 military installations nationwide and route information about over 600 vanpools actively serving commuters at these locations. Vanpooling at military installations helps reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil, reduces traffic congestion and air pollution in and around these facilities and, best of all for the end users, saves or completely eliminates commuting costs for military personnel and qualified DoD civilians.
